Well, it’s officially fall and I’ve transformed my living room bookcase yet again. If you follow me on Instagram, you may have caught my first IGTV, where I let you see my very authentic decorating process. Messy bun, pyjamas on, full-fledged un-glam, but that’s the real deal!
For this year’s fall bookshelf setup, I wanted less orange in the mix since I’ve been really drawn to white autumn decor on Pinterest, whilst still working within my decor stash that has been curated year to year
I’m a firm believer in making something new from old things, it’s one of the ways I make sustainable choices each new season. Less stuff bought has so many benefits including a lower environmental impact, less space needed to store, and an opportunity to push your creativity and resourcefulness.
Mixing fresh with faux pumpkins and flowers is a great trick to add more without needing to store everything later. A few of my other favourite items to pop in and out of my bookshelf decor are practical items like serving tiers, my favourite (thrifted) orange teapot, marble coasters, yarn and even the gourd spreaders I picked up on sale from Pottery Barn last winter.
It’s a total bonus that my cat Amber matches with this season’s decor. Of course she’s lounging on our blue couch which keeps the living room colourful all year round. Behind her are some cushions that also stay all year, but this season they’re dressed in their seasonal outfit!
Pillow shams often come in standard sizes, which creates major flexibility for where you can shop (high and low end). I really love the H&M Home collections which are budget-friendly, yet durable.
Tip: Stuff two pillow forms into a single sham for a super puffy pillow. An interior decorator’s secret.
In the winter, I’ll again switch out these pillow covers to fit my seasonal home style. Check back when the temperature drops!
